Vui Ve Eatery
Role: Brand Designer
Before the restaurant's early 2023 launch, I partnered with the founders of Vui Ve Eatery to build their visual identity from the ground up, translating their core mission of sparking joy through refined Vietnamese cuisine into a cohesive brand system.
Color was the foundation of the concept. Working collaboratively with the owners, we landed on an earthy olive green and a warm golden amber, two colors that do a lot of work simultaneously. The green nods directly to the fresh herbs and vegetables central to Vietnamese cooking, while together, the palette evokes warmth, vitality, and a sense of wholeness that mirrors the restaurant's philosophy.
Typography was chosen with equal intention. The serif wordmark carries a quiet elegance, refined and confident without feeling formal or distant. The way the letterforms sit together was deliberate, visually echoing the idea of togetherness that sits at the heart of Vui Ve's identity, a brand built around bringing people together through food. The diacritical marks native to the Vietnamese language were embraced as design elements rather than afterthoughts, lending the logotype an authenticity that more generic, Western-facing restaurant branding often loses.
The final brand system — encompassing the logo, color palette, typography, and branded collateral — positions Vui Ve as a contemporary dining destination that wears its cultural roots with pride.
